Senior Software Engineer - Agent Metric Pipelines

• Build and maintain the Datadog Agent that collects application and host telemetry across customer infrastructure • Power core Datadog products including Infrastructure Monitoring, Logs, APM, and Database Monitoring • Work on the Agent Metric Pipelines team collecting and forwarding metrics with minimal overhead and simple configuration • Own Agent code that receives, processes, and forwards metrics into Datadog's platform for indexing, aggregation, and alerting • Maintain client libraries for publishing custom metrics from various languages including Go, Java, and C#

• Strong experience in systems or distributed programming (Go, Rust, C++, Java, or similar) • Previous work on Agent-like software or on-prem deployed software • Experience in data pipeline processing, compression techniques, or telemetry transport protocols (gRPC, UDP, message batching) • Skilled in performance profiling and optimization with focus on CPU cycles, memory footprints, and bandwidth efficiency • Understanding of Linux internals and low-level OS concepts • Familiarity with Kubernetes or containerized deployment workflows

• Experience with Go and Rust programming languages • Knowledge of OpenTelemetry and observability systems • Background working with on-prem customer environments with resource constraints • Experience with gRPC and UDP data paths • Understanding of metric deduplication, tagging, and typing • Previous on-call rotation experience for production systems

• Design and implement high-performance, resource-efficient data pipelines for collecting, aggregating, and shipping metrics • Profile and optimize code for CPU, memory, and network efficiency in resource-constrained environments • Ensure data correctness, compression efficiency, and quality across telemetry pipeline including deduplication and tagging • Collaborate on performance analysis and tuning to improve reliability, latency, and throughput across ingestion systems • Partner with teams to support new telemetry formats, gRPC/UDP data paths, and OpenTelemetry integration • Contribute to operational excellence including monitoring, debugging, and on-call rotations • Write clean, maintainable code in Go and Rust while evolving the Agent ecosystem
