Frequently asked questions
Have more questions? Visit our about page or get in touch with Frederic, Co-Founder of RemoteCorgi.
- How can you turn steps into kilometres?
- Just multiply the total by your stride (in metres), then divide by 1,000. So walking 10,000 at 0.74 metres each gives you 7,400 metres, or 7.4 km.
- What is the average stride length?
- The average is about 76 cm for men and 67 cm for women. Our converter uses 74 cm as a general average. For a more accurate estimate, multiply your height by approximately 0.41. For example, a 1.75 m tall person has an estimated stride of about 72 cm.
- How do I measure my stride length?
- To measure your stride length accurately: mark a starting point, walk 10 steps at your normal pace, mark where you stop, then measure the total distance and divide by 10. Alternatively, walk a known distance (e.g., 100 metres) and count your steps, then divide the distance by the number of steps.
- How many steps are in 1 km?
- There are roughly 1,300 to 1,500 in one kilometre. At an average stride, men take about 1,316 per km (76 cm stride) and women about 1,493 per km (67 cm stride). Actual counts depend on height and how you walk.
- How many steps should you aim for each day?
- Most people hear about the 10,000 target, which is about 7-8 km of walking. But research shows you start seeing health benefits at around 7,000 to 8,000. If you work from home and skip the commute, try to fit in extra walks during your day to help you hit your goal and stay healthy.
